For many years, Generation 1 night vision technology was the only affordable choice for recreational nightly activities such as hunting and hiking. The price differences between Generation 1 and Generation 2 are enormous and therefore higher quality and resolution Generation 2 night vision goggles, rifle scopes and binoculars were out of the questions for people on a budget. Any Generation 1 user knows, the image in the center of the scope may be crisp and clear, but is more often then not is washed out around the edges. Currently, two companies have attempted to develop technologies that would do away with this common problem in Generation 1 night vision devices. These are the CF-Super Generation technology by Pulsar: Pulsar CF-Super and the Core Technology by Armasight: Core Technology Both technology provide a clear image across the whole field of view with no distortion around the edges. These are truly break-through technologies which are still classified as "Generation 1" due to the lack of micro-channel plates inside the image intensifier tubes but provide a much batter, crispier image and bring the user experience close to that of much more expensive Generation 2 and Generation 3 night vision devices.
