How to Properly Focus a Night Vision Device

A lot of times, our customers calls us with warries that their night vision goggles or binoculars are not working properly.  About 80% of the time, the night vision device is fully operational but is not focused properly.  Here are the proper focusing procedures for the most common types of night vision devices:

How to Focus Night Vision Goggles:

Make sure that the protective caps are on the objectives.  Insert the battery (if not already inserted) while paying attention to the correct polarity.  Press the "On" button, if your goggles have a green LED light, the light should light up.  Look into the eyepieces, if there is a green glow inside the night vision goggles, then they are operating properly.  Take the goggles to a dark place and take the protective caps off.  Turn on the built-in IR by pressing the "IR" button.  If you goggles have a red indicator light, it should now light up.  Put the goggles on and rotate each eyepiece to get a somewhat clear image.  Once you've adjusted the eyepieces, rotate the objectives to get a clear, crisp and detailed image.

Ho to Focus Night Vision Binculars:

Make sure that the protective caps are on the objectives.  Insert the battery (if not already inserted) while paying attention to the correct polarity.  Press the "On" button, if your binoculars have a green LED light, the light should light up.  Look into the eyepieces, if there is a green glow inside the night vision binoculars, then they are operating properly.  Take the binoculars to a dark place and take the protective caps off.  Turn on the built-in IR by pressing the "IR" button.  If you binculars have a red indicator light, it should now light up.  Bring the binoculars to your eyes and rotate each eyepiece to get a somewhat clear image.  If your binoculars are "Focus Free", you are done, otherwise, rotate the objectives to get a clear, crisp and detailed image.
